## Starting a conversation

Navigate to **Answers** from the sidebar. You'll see a chat window where you can type any question about your firm's data or accounting workflows. Some examples of what you can ask:

* "How many billable hours did we log last month?"
* "Which clients have the most outstanding work?"
* "How does our utilization compare to industry benchmarks?"
* "Show me a chart of revenue by department for Q4."

Type your question in the input field at the bottom of the screen and press **Enter** to send.

## How Answers responds

Answers gives you clear, direct responses without unnecessary jargon. Before diving into an answer, it may ask a few clarifying questions to make sure it understands exactly what you're looking for. Reply naturally, and it will refine its response.

When your question involves firm data, you'll see an **Analyzing...** section appear while Answers queries your connected data sources. Once complete, it will present its findings as text, a table, or a chart — whichever is most appropriate.

## Controls

At the bottom of the chat, you'll find a few controls next to the input field:

* **Web Search** (globe icon) — Toggle this on to let Answers search the web for current information like industry benchmarks and best practices. Enabled by default. See [Web Research](/answers/web-research) for details.
* **Connectors** (plug icon) — Choose which data sources Answers can access for your question. See [Data Sources & Connectors](/answers/data-sources) for details.

## Managing conversations

Each conversation is saved as a thread. You can find your previous threads in the sidebar and pick up where you left off. Answers remembers the context of your conversation, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself.

To start a fresh conversation, click **New Thread** in the sidebar.
