# Submit for review

> The preparer-to-reviewer handoff, and what has to be true before it can happen.

Every binder carries a status, and the review workflow is what moves it:

**In Progress** → **Ready for Review** → **Complete**

## Submit

Click **Submit for review** at the top of the binder.

| Binder type | Can submit when |
| - | - |
| **Trial balance** | Every account is either reconciled or [ignored](/papers/chart-of-accounts#ignore-accounts) |
| **Workpaper-only** | At least one document is uploaded |

If the button is grayed out on a trial balance binder, you have accounts left in another status. Sort the **Status** column on the [trial balance](/papers/trial-balance) to find them.

<Note>
  You must be assigned as a **preparer** to submit. If you're not, add yourself
  from [Settings](/papers/binder-settings).
</Note>

The status becomes **Ready for Review**.

## Review

A reviewer on a **Ready for Review** binder has two choices:

* **Approve** → status becomes **Complete**
* **Reject** → status returns to **In Progress**

Reject when something needs fixing, and pair it with an [issue](/papers/comments) saying what. A rejection with no comment leaves the preparer guessing.

<Note>
  You must be assigned as a **reviewer** to approve or reject. Assign yourself
  from [Settings](/papers/binder-settings).
</Note>

## Undo an approval

**Remove Approval** returns a completed binder to **In Progress**.

## Finding what's waiting on you

Turn on **Just For Me** on the [binders list](/papers/binders-list). It puts binders where you're the reviewer and the status is **Ready for Review** at the top. Or filter and bookmark that view directly.

## After review

A completed binder can be [locked](/papers/binder-settings#lock-or-delete-a-binder) so nothing changes underneath it, and [exported](/papers/export-binder) for delivery or the file.
