Answers

Answers Chat, Live End to End

Answers conversations are now fully real-time. A new thread appears in the sidebar instantly with an auto-generated title, and a run streams to every open tab — surviving refreshes, reconnects, and switching devices.
  • Send while it’s working — press Enter to inject a follow-up into the active run, or ⌥/Alt+Enter to queue one behind it. Stop cancels generation mid-stream.
  • Smoother streaming — answers and reasoning now arrive word by word with a gentle fade-in.
  • Live sidebar — thread status shows as a single dot: blue while a run is working, red if the last run failed, and purple when a run finished since you last looked. Pin threads, rename them, and search the sidebar.
  • Persistent unread indicators — unread dots and read state now survive reloads and follow you across browsers and devices.
  • Rename threads — titles are auto-generated, and you can rename or regenerate them anytime.
  • Deleting a thread is now a soft delete — the thread is hidden and recoverable rather than permanently removed.

QuickBooks Classes on Journal Entries

  • Assign a QuickBooks Online class to individual journal entry lines — the class picker appears when the entity has synced classes, and the selection is pushed to QBO when the entry syncs.
  • Class assignments are now preserved when journal entries are converted into recurring templates and generated pending entries.

Full QBO Account Roster in the Chart of Accounts

The Chart of Accounts now syncs the full active QuickBooks Online account roster, so you can post journal entries against accounts that had no activity in the period (which QBO omits from its Balance Sheet and P&L) — they come in as normal zero-balance lines.
  • Every project type’s settings page now renders from one consistent template, with trial-balance-only sections shown only where they apply

Edit, Lock, and Version Documents

Denari Documents now supports working on files in place:
  • In-app editing — annotate PDFs and edit spreadsheets directly in the document viewer.
  • Document locking — lock a document while you work on it so others don’t make conflicting edits; admins can force-unlock.
  • Versioning — upload a replacement file to create a new version, review pending versions, and restore a previous one from the Versions tab.
  • Delete — remove a document from the actions menu. Deletion is a soft delete that retires every version and removes the document from search and client portals.
  • TIFF support — TIFF files now render in the document viewer alongside PDF, Excel, and Word.
Choose how search works from a cog menu: match on attributes, full text (OCR), semantic meaning, or any combination. Results are combined with relevance-aware ranking so an exact filename match is never buried under fuzzy hits, and your search configuration is saved with your views.

Firms can now restrict an entity’s data to a named list of members.
  • Locked entities gate every related project and document; non-members file an in-app Request access request.
  • Members manage the member list, approve or deny requests, and toggle the lock from Entity Settings.
  • A new Entity history card shows a timeline of lock/unlock, membership changes, and access requests.

Journal Entries & QBO Reports

  • Journal entry line descriptions now auto-populate from the line above and flow down into subsequent blank lines.
  • QuickBooks Online reports can now be imported as Excel (.xlsx) in addition to PDF, with a Portrait/Landscape orientation toggle for wide reports.
  • The entity documents page now uses the same document tree, preview, and comments panel as project documents.

Intake

Documents now has Intake, a triage queue for incoming files. Documents land grouped into bundles where you set attributes, match them to a client, and file them into the library — with My/Firm scopes, an auto-saving attribute editor, and keyboard-driven approve, match, and file actions. Upload integrations like the virtual printer can drop documents straight into Intake. See Intake.

Searchable Document Content

Every document version is now run through OCR and indexed, so full-text and semantic search can find documents by their contents — not just their name and attributes. Large backfills run efficiently in batches, while freshly uploaded files are indexed right away.

Faster Ways Around the Library

  • ⌘K command menu — press ⌘K on the documents list to jump straight to a client by name or ID.
  • Searchable filter popover — a Linear-style filter picker for narrowing the list.
  • Preview pane — select a document to preview it (PDF or spreadsheet) right beside the list; double-click to open the full detail page.
  • Version history tab — a read-only Versions tab on the document detail sidebar.
  • Hide custom attribute badges — firms can suppress their own custom fields from search-result badges while keeping them fully searchable.
The documents page also got a visual pass: a softer attribute color palette, skeleton loaders, teaching empty states, and full keyboard navigation of the tree (arrow keys, Home/End, Enter).

Document Attributes

Documents are now organized by a firm-configurable set of attributes (Client, Year, Service Line, Document Type, and your own custom fields). The attribute sidebar shows and edits the right fields for each document, an upload wizard collects them on the way in, and the library tree groups and filters by any attribute.
  • Comments tab — discuss a document inline from its detail sidebar.
  • Document action menus — open, print, download, share, and copy document metadata from the list or detail page.
  • Entity references now show their upstream identifier prefixed to the name (for example, 0001903 — Client Name) across the tree, filters, and grouping.

Denari Documents is a firm-wide document library: a single searchable home for all of your firm’s files, organized by the attributes that matter to you rather than rigid folders.
  • Server-driven search, grouping, and filters over the full library, with infinite scroll for large corpora.
  • Drag and drop to upload — drop files onto a group to inherit that group’s Client, Year, and Service Line as starting attributes, or onto open space to upload without pre-fill, with a progress dock and per-file retry.

Denari Documents is the firm-wide library. The per-project document workspace inside Papers is separate.

Ask questions about your firm’s data and accounting topics using natural language. Answers will clarify your intent before responding to make sure you get exactly what you need.
Connect to your firm’s Thomson Reuters Practice CS database to query time entries, billing, clients, staff, departments, projects, and more. All access is read-only — Answers cannot modify your data.
Toggle web search on to get up-to-date information on industry benchmarks and other topics. Answers cites its sources so you can verify the information yourself.
Request bar, line, area, pie, and radar charts to visualize your data. Download any chart as a PNG image for use in presentations or reports.
View detailed results as formatted tables. Download tables as CSV files or copy and paste them directly into Excel.
Each conversation is saved as a thread with full context, so you can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself. Pick up any previous conversation from the sidebar.
Use Answers on your phone or tablet. The interface adapts to smaller screens — the sidebar slides in as an overlay, and the chat and input are optimized for touch. See Mobile for details.

Teams Update

This update allows firms to group projects and users into Teams, putting guardrails on projects so users don’t edit projects they shouldn’t by mistake. Common use cases include grouping projects and users by department (e.g. CAS, Tax), by location, or a combination of the two.
Editing Teams — Admins can access a new Teams tab in the admin route to see all existing teams, create new teams, and update or delete existing teams.Project creation and updating with teams — Projects can be assigned to a single team. Changing teams in the form will remove the users currently set, since they may not be valid selections anymore.Removing teams from a user — Removing users from teams also removes them from all projects assigned to that team. A preview of affected projects is shown before confirming.Deleting a team with projects assigned — Deleting a team removes the team assignment from both users and projects, but does not remove users from those projects since all users are valid on a project with no team selected.

Duplicate Project Warning

Users now receive a warning when creating a project if a duplicate is detected. Warnings appear if the new project shares the same client, entity, and period end date as an existing project.

Just for Me View

A new toggle on the project list page sorts projects relevant to the current user:
  1. Projects where you are the preparer and the status is “in progress”
  2. Projects where you are the reviewer and the status is “ready for review”

Ignore Column Option

Users can now select columns to ignore on CSV uploads. Fields not mapped used to be ignored automatically — this change ensures every trial balance column is accounted for.

Users can now see sub-account values when hovering over the child accounts button on the reconciliation screen. You can also bulk remove all reconciliations to undo all sub-accounts at once.

Account Mapping Prototype

Users can now map accounts to a Mapped Financial Statement to consolidate accounts and present a standardized financial statement. This feature is still being developed and released for feedback.

AI Tie-Out Revamp

Significant improvements to the AI-suggested trial balance tie-out feature:
  • The AI now looks at the first three pages and the last two pages of each document (previously only the first two)
  • In cases of multiple appropriate numbers on one page, the AI picks the one lowest on the page to better detect totals
  • The AI now considers the name of the file
  • The AI learns from what you did in the last period
Correct file naming is the most important thing you can do to assist the AI. For example, a fixed assets document should be called something like “Fixed assets 053125.pdf” — not something generic like “2014904.pdf” or “download.pdf”.

Documents can now be marked as Roll Forward as Placeholder in addition to normal Roll Forward. This can be toggled in the edit document settings form or from the bulk action menu.

Admin Dashboard for User Management

Admins can now add, delete, and edit users for their organization without submitting tickets to Denari. Accessible from the top-left app feature selector.

Project Locking

Reviewers on a project can lock it once complete. Only Admins can unlock a locked project.When a project is locked, the following are disabled:

  • Ignoring/un-ignoring line items
  • Editing the Chart of Accounts
  • The settings page (except exports)

Editing XLSX Documents in Microsoft Excel

Users can now access Excel directly through Denari via the SharePoint button. Click the SharePoint link to open the file in Excel. For desktop users, click Editing > Open in Desktop in the Excel Web app.All edits are automatically saved. When finished, click SharePoint > Sync from Microsoft to apply changes to the Denari document.
Changes may take 30 seconds to a minute to register. If you don’t see the sync option, wait until it appears.

Project List Page Improvements

Major improvements to the project list page including better performance, improved filters, and the ability to filter by date ranges instead of specific dates.

Default Entity Types

Entity types are now automatically assigned based on the default setting in the entity settings page.

Debit Based Trial Balance Option

Users can now edit both labels and values on saved calculator annotations, and add more line items.

Users are now warned when changing the category type of an account that has active journal entries, as the change will result in JE deletion.
  • Book balance is now shown for XLSX manual reconciliations
  • Can now manually tie-out to Excel balances on any sheet
  • Users are notified if a frozen Excel column blocks viewing

Ignored Tax Code Status

Users can now select Ignored for accounts like Net Income, zero-balance accounts, or the tax adjustment account that don’t need tax code mapping.

Tax Journal Entries

Users can now make Tax Journal Entries by selecting Tax as the JE type. The tax adjustment account offsets any tax adjustments, and adjustments directly affect Net Income to calculate taxable income at the bottom of the Tax Trial Balance.

Net Income Display

Net Income is now displayed at the bottom of every Tax Trial Balance with Book Balance, Tax Adjustments, and Adjusted Tax Balance (taxable income).

Hide Zero Balance Account Improvements

Your preference to hide or show zero balance accounts is now remembered per project. Additionally, parent accounts with a zero balance but non-zero child accounts now show up when hiding zero balance accounts.

Documents can now be moved between the workpapers and other documents tabs by editing the Document Type field.
