Supported document types

Denari supports the following document types directly:
  • Excel (.xlsx, .xls)
  • PDF (.pdf)
Additionally, Denari supports the following through automatic conversion to PDF:
  • Microsoft Word (.docx)
  • JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg)
  • PNG (.png)
  • HEIC (.heic)

Upload documents

To upload documents to a project, click the Documents tab and upload your files. There are three document tabs:
  • Workpapers — Documents used as direct project support. These are ingested and processed by AI to find matches for your trial balance values.
  • Other documents — Supporting documents not used for trial balance reconciliation.
  • [Entity Name] documents — Entity-level documents accessible from every project tied to that entity.

Edit documents in Denari

Denari supports editing PDF and Excel documents directly in the web app. Open a document and click the Edit button. When done, click Save changes.

PDF editing

PDF editing includes the following annotation tools:
  • Highlighter — Yellow highlight
  • Ink/Drawing — Red freehand drawing
  • Text — Red text boxes
  • Line — Red straight lines
  • Rectangle — Light green rectangles
  • Undo/Redo — Step backward or forward through edits
Some PDFs have disabled permissions (annotating, printing, editing) set by the original document owner. A notification bar will appear when this is the case.

Excel editing

Excel editing includes a toolbar with formatting, formulas, and features like pivot tables.

Edit with SharePoint

For users who prefer Excel or Microsoft Word, documents can be edited through Microsoft SharePoint:
  1. Click the SharePoint link on the document page to open the file in the web app
  2. For desktop editing, click Editing > Open in Desktop in the Excel/Word web app
  3. When finished, click SharePoint > Sync from Microsoft to apply changes back to Denari
Changes may take 30 seconds to a minute to register. Wait until you see the sync option before clicking it.
SharePoint must be configured with your Microsoft Teams admin.

Edit on your desktop

If you prefer to use a desktop application that isn’t Excel or Word:

Download

Download the document by clicking the download button on the document page.

Edit

Make edits on your desktop using your application of choice (Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Word, etc.).

Replace

Replace the document in Denari by clicking and then Replace document.

Document approvals

On the documents tab, right-click any document to approve or unapprove it. Any user assigned to the project can approve or unapprove:
  • Preparers get a blue initials badge
  • Reviewers get a green initials badge
You can also click the Approve or Unapprove button on the document view page.

Versioning and restore

If you save over a PDF and want to revert, click the history button from the actions menu to view and restore previous file versions.

Move documents between tabs

Documents can be moved between the workpapers and other documents tabs. Open a document, click , click Edit document settings, and change the Document type field.
If the document is used in any reconciliations, you will be warned that the reconciliations will be removed before the document is moved.
